Arrival in Lyon-morepics

There are two train stations in Vallance and we arrived at the largest and newest on with half an hour to spare, to realise that we were at the wrong one! After a hair-raising dash to the right one, we caught the train with minutes to spare. Not good for Mary's blood pressure!

We abandoned the idea of using the metro in Lyon to get to the hotel, as the ticket machine was incomprehensible and the ticket area was full of gypsies trying to give us 'special offers'. We took a taxi to Hotel de Paris, in the old part of Lyon. We were early for checkin so went to the river. My friend Roger notes with derision that I always take a packed lunch to the city--when he says I should be sampling local cafes.

So as not to disappoint him--Roger--here I am next to the Saone, with my packed lunch!

After we checked in to a small but very clean and nicely appointed hotel room, we had a tip that there was an international festival starting nearby. We  rushed off and it was spectacular! tha first pics are of dancers from -of all places-- La Reunion! More to follow....

This final pic is two guides from the French tourist officw who approached us to offer assistance, They asked what the Tourist office should do to help visitors and I said -'smile'--as most people we meet in the offices in France don't look very happy or helpful--so they smiled nicely all the time they were explaining the features of Lyon!
