After a long but uneventful (fortunately)journey we arrived at our gite quite late and began a frantic search for an open supermarket--thank you 'intermarche!' !

Son Michael had meanwhile arrived, separately, at a nearby B & B and arrived  at 9.00pm, complete with his chauffeuse -Annette--his landlady, who had advised Michael of the Fete de St Jean in the town and had kindly offered to drive him (and us) there. Jacqui and Tom remained behind with Louis.

The backdrop was the river Garonne and a bridge. Very colourful and all the better for being so unexpected.

There was an address by the local Priest (picture with him, Annette and me)Michael had a 'real French ' crepe

and then we went to the local 14thC church where there was a 10 metre high, illuminated   art work. Annette introduced us to the artiste -Ariele, standing at the back of the pic, in red, between me and Annette, also Michael.

After that, Annette explained that she had been to finishing school in Cambridge, with Camilla Parker Bowles and attended a May Ball at Kings' College. Quite a life, she'd had, at 18.
