Avebury-home of the Druids?
From our base, with our nieces and all their families in Foxham, near Chippenham, Wiltshire, we drove the next day to Avebury to see the standing stones.
There are ten of us in the house--so I had booked a suitably large one, but I failed to ask if they had internet. Turned out, there wasn't even a 'phone line--very frustrating! Son-in-law Will-my mobile 'help desk' had a small WiFi facility, but not enough to cope with blogging.
The atmosphere of the place affects everything--including the adverts on the sides of vehicles.
I also thought I spotted someone dressed in appropriate costume, so I approached her and was informed by the lady in question that she is an artist, Anne Sudworth, with a studio and website www.AnneSudworth.co.uk.
The local 1000 year-old church has a list of it's vicars, for the whole span--numbering only about 50 men. Amazing, especially as in plague years they lasted only a year or two.
