Burgh Island and Salcombe

What a difference the sunshine makes. A huge contrast to yesterday. We drove through narrow lanes to Bigbury-on-sea and walked  through a herd of sheep (gathered under a Union Jack) , then some charming countryside and exquisite villages (reminiscent of Brittany) and some vertical rock strata. At the end we walked out to Burgh Island and had a drink at the pub, built in the 1300's. It is connected to the mainland by a sand bridge at low tide and a 4 wheeled hydraulic contraption is used at high tide.

At some point a very low-flying helicopter appeared suddenly, whichTom identified as an RAF Apache attack helicopter! It was so low that it had to skip over the sails of the sail-boarders.

Later we drove to Salcombe, to see it in sunlight--a very 'upmarket' fishing village and holiday resort, before returning to our cottage.

This evening, Jacqui and Tom took us to a very nice restaurant in a hotel in Hope Cove--the Cottage Hotel.
