Carbost to Plockton to Fort Augustus

This drive took us through some really great mountain scenery (with ony a few viewing spots) to the home of the TV series 'Hamish Macbeth' in the charming village of Plockton. It was also the site from where all the clans were banished in a crop famine --as recorded in a small museum. An olden refugee crisis.

From there to Eileen Donan --a castle, not a girl.Tourists of many nationalities abounded there.

Past a roadside area where hundreds of people had each constructed their own little 'cairn' It was really weird.

Thence to Fort Augustus, the entrance to Loch Ness and the junction with the Caledonian Canal, where none less than 5 locks lead down to the Loch from the canal and a swivelling raod bridge allows is necessary for all but the smallest craft.

I never knew that Inverness is two words in Gaelic. A 'B' is pronounced 'V'
