Corfu (Kekira)

It threatened 41 Deg C but stopped at 32.

Quite warm enough especially for narrow streets, over-run with tourists everywhere. We were bus number 30 from two Viking vessels plus two other huge cruise ships, Holland America and something else.

Many of the buildings  in Corfu city look decayed and in need of urgent remedial work, as well as a lack of decoration, which detracts a lot from what is potentially a very attractive town.

It seems to be the home of 'Loofas' that we used to use at bathtime!

The streets are almost entirely marbled limestone and in good condition. It has a very chequered history and in 18thC a very substantial fort was built on a hill near the port, which exists today. There are many statues. It is the largest of seven Ionian islands that were relieved to all join under Greek governance, for protection. The shopkeepers were all reserved and encouraged unhindered inspection.

We were shown the interior of a very ancient, still very active church which was incredibly ornate, but no photos allowed.
