Culture in the Blue Mountains!

Last Friday night we went to a concert in support of refugees, in a a theatre in Springwood. Malik Jandali is a German Syrian concert pianist and composer of considerable acclaim ( I later found out) and started a charity called 'pianos for peace', mainly supporting Syrian children.  After one particular  performance in the USA, which expressed his universal care, his mother in Syria was beaten up while  his father --a surgeon-bound hands and feet-had to watch. Malik  blames the Assad regime for this treatment, as the perpetrators repeatedly told the father that they would show the mother how children should be brought up in Syria. Malik is a born presenter as well as excellent musician

More cheerfully , we went on Saturday night to Blackheath primary School to see the acclaimed (and very humorous) astronomer Prof. Fred Watson, frequently on radio, provide up to date information on the solar system with some stunning pictures. I managed a pic of him as he was packing up. They had a Starwars stormtrooper to keep people under control!
