Cutty Sark

Meeting up with lifetime friend Clifford at Waterloo Station, we took a scarily fast water cat to Greenwich where there recently renovated Cutty Sark is housed (25 million GBP!) We  passed the scenes pictured from the 'wedding' boat, but in poorer weather today.

In addition we visited the famous original clocks of John Harrison, which aided navigation enormously--especially for Captain Cook.

The statue is of Sir Walter Raleigh and there was a display of ships' busts from the prow of old ships.

In the Greenwich Observatory we also saw the original telescopes used by Flamsteed and of course the famous Meridian Line. Everyone else wants theoir pic standing across the line but I chosetoshow the line under the telescope that was the reason forthe position of the line.

Also--did you know thast different astronomers and geographers chose slightly different places for 'their' meridian line--so the Ordanance Survey maps are based on a line afew feet away from the astronomical one? Good trivia question.

The Cutty Sark rooms were enhanced with holographic speaking  images.

We returned with a very brief peek into the Tate Modern.
