Daylight, pigeons, real medieval buildings and Godaughters

The difference between the two pics of the garden, in prior blog, is 17 hours of continous good daylight.  One taken at 4.00am the second at 9.00pm--long days are SO nice.

The BBC reported on London pigeons using the tube trains to get around-------they board a train at an underground station then get off where they know they can find easy food. They were filmed standing quietly on the train, like normal commuters. It was not reported if they were tagged with 'Oyster' leg tags!

Today we visited the Open Air Museum at Singleton, West Sussex.

This site has original medieval, and earlier, genuine buildings, taken from other sites and rebuilt in exact detail, on this site.

They date from 18thC back to 13thC. At first they just look plain andfairly  bare and one thinks of the many buildings of these ages that are still in use. Then, one realises that these buildings are JUST as they were originally built--no added features at all--just the way the craftsmen left them. In one case, in a medieval kitchen,  a volunteer was cooking bread and soup to an old recipe with plants grown on site--they tasted delicious.

There were also shire working horses, Sussex chickens, ducks and geese, working water-mill producing commecial flour, a working smithy and working scarecrow. There was also advice on the maximum house size a labourer should have.

These are just a few pics. By and large, they get older as the blog proceeds, back to 1200's.This blog is a challenge, to give a real concept of the place.

The weather was good most of the time but rained in later afternoon. The building pics conclude with one of Mary's favourite rooms (I'll get shot for this!)

Last few pics are of Mary with Godaughter Melanie--who we visited at home then the Spotted Cow pub where we had tes (dinner in Australia).  Beef in ale pie for me.
