Devon to Lake district - Kendal

The journey up the M5 was broken at Eccleshall, a surprisingly 'chic' midlands village, at a 17th C Coaching Inn.

The weather had been  terrible,as you can see,  so the next morning we had the full English breakfast, including fried bread then set off.

On arrival we had time for a walk on Scout Scar with the dog.

The next day we visited the 'Historic House' of Levens, still owned and occupied by the Bagot family, as evidenced by the cables to the electric blankets on the four-poster beds! The room wardens said they sometimes had to get people out of bed before the paying visitors arrived.

The gardens include the best topiary work in the world and the gardens date back to the 1600's

One  pic is one of the three of us in a 'Willow Maze'!
