Prawle Point

First a news flash--we made a sudden decision to take advantage of being near Plymouth and have booked a week in Roscoff, Brittany, leaving tomorrow.

Our circular walk took us along the S. Coast path

and inland, where we found an unexpected seat in a remote spot, for our lunch (so many surprises in the UK countryside-not least just how many footpaths there are--hundreds of them).

At the 'point' is a volunteer coastguard watch station, using amazing technology to track all shipping passing by. Don't even think of smuggling with these blokes watching 24/7! The area is notorious for shipwrecks and recently a haul of Spanish gold sovereigns was found, from the 1600's.

The National Trust now has wayside pictures showing local farming families,

their crops and cattle  and what they do to protect the environment. This pic is of Farmer Tucker and his three sons and their families.

There was a lovely field of Barley.
