Ephesus or Kusadasi (bird island)

Everybody wants to see Ephesus so the restaurants quickly emptied this morning as bus after bus left the dock. We were last at No 30. This pic this morning from our balcony on the docked ship.

It became very hot, even for the locals and the smooth marble flagstones on the paths were treacherous. This  guide was very knowledgeable, spoke clearly but still had this annoying habit of finishing a talk, saying feel free to take photos but moving straight off, leaving you wondering if you'd lose him if you hung back. There were guides everywhere with big knots of people in tow.

There's a massive reconstruction task ahead as they slowly reassemble the broken columns and walls but it will certainly be impressive.

There's a 25,000 seat amphitheatre, which is spectacular and from which Paul preached.

Apparently the acoustics are amazing.There are two semi-reconstructed buildings of real note. One is a sort of temple to Emporer Hadrian (of wall fame) and the great library. The library once housed over 9000 scrolls of knowledge-all donated to the library at Alexandria .....such a pity.....

I did overhear a couple of officials saying they'd just dug up Hadrian's library card record and found he's still owing two books-the fines have mounted up to exceed the national GDP.......
