Fawlty Towers Dining Experience
The family had kindly given me tickets for this and booked for last night at the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel in Sydney, Uber transport as well! It took place in the really attractive upstairs 'Cello Room"
about 112 people sat in mostly tables of 8 while Basil, Sybil and Manuel joined the waiter team and re-enacted many of the favourite scenes.
Basil was a 'dead ringer' for John Cleese as was Sybil. Manuel was almost as good too. The real one was more 'craven' in style.
At the start, Sybil ordered Basil to give out the butter pats and as Basil was already annoyed with Sybil, he just threw handfuls of them at us at the tables! They went everywhere! We ended up picking some of them off the floor. That broke the ice. Manuel was also flinging bread rolls everywhere as well.
In the second Manuel pic below, Basil has ordered him to collect up the empty soup plates, but didn't mention the spoons, so Manuel just tipped the spoons onto the table............
The highlight for me was seeing Basil and another man carry a covered 'dead body' past our table.
When Sybil came to sit at our table, I said "earlier I saw Basil carry a dead body past our table"! Sybil screamed out 'Basil' and he reluctantly left another table and Sybil said , very loudly, "this man saw you carry a dead body past his table, what's going on ?" (see pic below) Basil looked at me, muttered, then stood dead erect and fainted backwards onto the floor! He got up a couple of seconds later and said "He's lying -he's having an illusion and stared at me, then stormed off.
After that, each time Basil passed our table he pointed a straight arm and finger at me and grimaced!.
There was also Manuel's pet rat and the 'Hitler' scene.
Other scenes were difficult to catch for images as they mingled in amongst the other tables. In a late scene , Manuel, in exasperation, took a model pink fish off the wall and managed to stuff it in Basil's 'derriere'! You can just see it as basil escapes to the kitchen. Meal was good too, great entertainment and we even got taken home by Tom as well!
