Fund raising for the Scout Group
Our over-achieving venturer leader, Baggy, discovered a really good way to raise funds--offer to pack bags for customers at Woolies and Coles supermarkets --with a donation bucket nearby! Some of the proceeds will go to charity, the balance being for expedition work.
The idea worked very well indeed and also gave a chance for scouts and leaders to talk to the public--who often have no idea how modern scouting has become --including girls in scouts. Privacy issues (of the public, not scouts) prevented us from taking many pics but we did take one of two leaders, Kooka and Kanga, actually doing their shopping while I 'packed their bags'.
We received many positive comments from the public, on Scouting, who are concerned about the lack of engagement of adults with youth, in society, outside of school and short sporting fixtures.
I do need to point out that this activity in no way reflects Scout movement support for the financing or purchasing policies of Woolies or Coles.
