Galeries Lafayette

A friend advised to get metro tickets in a  group of 10 and they would last for ages. They don't last when 6 others are saying "Dad, can I have a ticket" AND your wife expects one as well!

I had no idea that the original Lafayette building was so stunning. It's reserved for women. The male store is next door. I tried to buy a comb and was referred to the men's  store, who then rferred me to theChinese '2 euro shop' down the road-- guess they just don't sell combs!

Later, I came across the Velib rentable electric cars, a massive underground shopping centre with unusual corridor lighting and a 16th C church where a Mass was being conducted.

(For fellow French students--I fell into conversation with a retired journalist who lived in the area, spoke very clear French and we conversed for about half an hour about the world, travel etc etc--I felt I'd made good progress since last year)

We then all went to Sacre Coeur where  I discovered Louis Renault had got there some years before me, also an American train!

Finally--the metro home and a large attractive vase in our appartment.
