Garden pond

Over the last few weeks I have constructed a garden pond in the front garden, to the maximum legal depth of 200mms --with a deep end for water plants and shallow end for reptiles amphibians and birds-- but hopefully not visiting cane toads from Queensland.

The pond is located under the frangi pani tree and  completed just in time to catch descending petals of the tree, which float attractively on the water. They really are exquisite and so fragrantly perfumed.

There is a very large plastic pond flower, as well,  that Mary bought as a surprise joke!

There is a picture with a magnolia tree on the left. There is a wattle-bird nest in it --the fledglings birds have now left --but we are hoping the wattle birds will remain as they are territorial and have cleared off some other -more pesky- birds, including non-natives. I have included a number of native plants in the garden to attract local bird life.  Wattle birds are honey eaters. The next step is to provide some native food for them in a bird feeder.
