Gibralter 2006

On a longish trip we took in Gibralter--a place that has fascinated since so many schoolfriends had army fathers who were posted there in the war .

The one road in and out to Spain, crosses the one runway--used for international arrivals--a bit scary going across the runway!

You can see the coast of N. Sfrica, emphasising the critical militray value of Gibralter in wartime. Gibralter has been over-run so many times in its history, it must have been continuously nerve-wracking for the indigenous population.

There is a massive cave inside the rock, plus many, many tunnels--St Michael's cave, where concerts are held--like Jenolan caves. The island is home to hundreds of quite large monkeys, very intelligent and intrusive if you have food! They are in good condition and regularly checked by a government vet.
