Gozo

A coach took us to a northern ferry terminal where we crossed (only 20 mins) to the island of Gozo. In spite of a population of maybe 30,000, the island has not just one cathedral, but two Basilicas--a grade up from cathedral and rare in church architecture. They are very well used and maintained by the locals. One has very modern mosaic curved panels outside.

In the church of  St George there is a solid silver statue of St George, much celebrated today as it is St  George's Day and he is the patron saint of Malta.

Lacemaking  is traditional here and people were wearing traditional costumes in some shops.

We enjoyed a short boat trip to the 'blue grotto' (caused by calcium particles in the water) and lunch in a hotel in the countryside.
