Hairspray!

Last Friday night we went to a school performance of the 1960's musical 'Hairspray'. The conductor of the orchestra at the school also conducts Mary's choir -which is the connection.

It was very lively--high energy  and I was surprised to learn that all the performers were school students. Some were so grown up and gave such a polished performance, that I was sure they were brought in for the part.

Not having any idea what the musical was about, I was puzzled to see performers who were obviously fat --until it was explained to me that they were wearing 'fat' costumes and that the play is about racial integration and respect for minorities!
