Hughenden Manor
After seeing Louis splashing about in the local lido, we went to Hughenden Manor for some lunch. Our Australian NT cards entitled us to the 2016 NT Handbook--very handy.
Hughenden was the home of colourful character and PM Benjamin Disraeli, nicknamed Dizzy --bit of a Boris Johnson character really and his wife. It was also the home, in WWII of the secret mapping unit for bombing German military targets, like Peenemunde.
Queen Victoria was a frequent visitor there and her picture hangs over a fireplace, with that of Albert.
I also include a couple of Disraeli's sayings, a walled garden lady scarecrow and a warning to children playing knights and dragons!
