Waratah Private hospital

Being curious, I wondered who owned the hospital.

It was founded in 1920's by two nurses and has grown and changed hands several times, at one stage being owned by eight Australian surgeons,  growing to be the third largest  private hospital group in Australia, with 17 hospitals.

It's website makes mention of it's sale in 2012 to Healthe Care, an Australian entity, but no mention of the subsequent sale in 2015, for about one billion dollars,  to the Luye Medical  Chinese company based in Hong Kong--chairman Liu Dian Bo. It is now entirely Chinese owned and managed, all approved by the  foreign investment review board.

The Luye Group plans to expand into Asia and become a major health care player there. The chairman says they are committed to maintaining local standards of care.

There do not appear to be any permanent employed medical specialists or surgeons, but the operating suites are available to visiting surgeons or other specialists and the Luye Group maintains the facilities to presumably auditable Australian standards.

Mr Atkins--one of the original local owners, retains an interest.

So it looks like it's all about the 'business model'
