Ile Batz -again

Ile Batz -again

For me, the most amazing thing about this place is that you can leave your home as late as noon and still have 10 hours of full sunshine ahead of you; not even midsummer day.

We went back to this island, walking only this time, where Mary found a bikini she really liked, in a cheap shop in only 5 minutes ( we had spent an hour the day before in expensive places--you husbands know what I'm talking about!).She tried it in the sea but pictures were forbidden.

I found that true Bretons have unusual signs and names for their places (!)

and some more deeply philosophical graffiti.

Oh yes, at one beautiful place, a teenage girl with a strong north of England accent was saying

"Nice as it is, it's just not Blackpool, is it?" --She really did say it.

We had a final beer before the ferry -'Lancelot'--

there is a mythic connection between Cornwall, Ireland and Brittany, which shows up in odd places.

In the evening after a small but highly attractive

meal,  decorated with plants from the restaurant garden,

we went to a concert in the huge Catholic church, where we found ourselves sitting next to a Breton couple, Eugene and Maria, retired farmers, of our age, also with three daughters and a son of similar age to ours.

We had a lively conversation -totally in French, about allsorts of things and exchanged email addresses. They now run a chambre d'hote, 20 Kms away in the countryside.

The picture includes them and a the choir leader, Maria Lesaint.
