Ile de Bat'z

Ile de Bat'z

Yesterday we went by short ferry ride, from a verylong pier,  to the VERY Breton island of Baht'z, just off the coast from Roscoff. It is a very small island growing potatos and the famous Breton onions, being harvested, often by hand and the onions traditionally  sold by men on bicycles (onion Johnnies). Memories of "It is I, Leclerc", from the series 'Allo Allo'!

Cycling or on horse is the best way around, so we did (cycle!), there being only a few cars and one taxi.

There is an (unattractive) lighthouse with 198 steps (yes, I did!)

and a Breton version of dragon boats-or maybe serpent boats.

The views from the island are quite spectacular and there is a big variety of colourful fishing and sailing craft around.

Right at the end of our ride, I lost Mary and told the bike hire man I  lost my wife on the trip. He appeared very envious and told me to enjoy my luck, just as Mary turned up!
