Kurnell sculptures

First a tree on the council strip, two doors down, which died in the drought, is felled. It took days. Huge tree.

In cold, wet miserable Saturday post-lock-down weather, we went to nearby Kurnell to see the newly installed sculptures, consisting of a whale skeleton sculptured in bronze and a whale and calf, also in bronze.

In the skeleton pic you can see a small dark cube on the rocks to the right.

This is the exact spot where Captain Cook first put his foot on the soil and claimed the country in the name of the Crown, as he was instructed to do in his orders from London, in an envelope carried with him from London. He was also ordered to find the country 'uninhabited' and to his eternal shame that is what he officially reported on return, thus opening the way for colonisation. When other European ships began visiting the officers were appalled to find that no treaty had been struck with the indigenous natives.
