Lachie's baptism
The Catholic church where this took place has a splendid interior. I had visions of a Coronation-like pageant with robed acolytes running hither and thither.
But we were shunted off to a smaller side room and the priest alone introduced himself to us.
He was a tall, impressive man with a gentle voice and oozed good humour. The service was identical almost word for word to that used in a very unadorned, small Congregational church in Harrow where I was in their scout group. He read it very quickly and with no great ceremony and with a lot of very humorous repartee, which made it memorable, but not in any way lacking sincerity. A great skill. Through it all Lachie clutched his 'monster truck' and even tried dipping it in the water.
Afterwards there were many photos
then off to a sparkling reception organised by Kris's oldest sister Michelle, a professional engineer. Again we had loads of food and there was dressing up if you so chose!!
