Leaving Lakes to York via Bolton Abbey
Taking a sad farewell from Tony and hilary we set out in fine weather for York--crossing the width of England through many attractive villages and great scenery, including Bolton Abbey.
We passed a futuristic militarty site which houses the UK's leading military radar 'domes' --difficult to photograph.
We met a local guide in Bolton Abbey who has visited and loves Australia. I am always impressed with just how few priests (about 50 usually) link the present to 1000 years ago, in any old church. Bolton Abbey is clearly a popular spot for locals looking fora day out with the kids--every accent was fromYorkshire!
Arriving in York we met with friend Dorothy who holds our tickets for tomorrow night's Mystery Plays in York Minster.
In the evening we saw a 'ghost hunter' and many old buildings--just look at some of the dates below!
York is an amazing package of historical events and processes --we have always enjoyed our several visits here.
We finished witha $13.00 (each) solid pub meal which included a wholebottle of wine (Hardys!!)
