Leura Cascadeas and Federal Pass

I'll reprint here the walk report by John Dando, our day leader.

We commenced this iconic walk down the Cascades until we reached the bottom of the Bridal Veil Falls. Then we joined the Federal Pass (which was opened on the 3.11.1900.) & continued down the valley until we took a detour for 500m along the Lindeman Pass to visit Leura Falls which are one of the best falls in the Mountains. Retracing our steps we rejoined the Federal Pass & walked to the Leura rainforest picnic area for morning tea at 11am. This beautiful area was once called Lady Carrington's Reserve. Then we continued on along the valley where we watched a pair of Lyrebirds scratching for worms & grubs in the undergrowth. We went on until we joined the Dardanelles Pass under the Three Sisters & made our way back past the Giant Stairs to Leura forest picnic area for lunch at 12.40. It was nice to see more Lyrebirds & hear the sounds of the variety of other birdlife. We climbed up out of the valley via the Federal Pass to the top of cliff Drive visiting some lookouts over the Jamison Valley, Flat Rock Lookout being one. Then instead of going along Prince Henry walk we went off track into the bush of the old Leura Reserve & visited Whale Rocks where Sunny keen eye noticed the old timber poles which had a 11kv transformer to supply power for the old flood lights at the Cascades. We then came out of the bush opposite the carpark, finishing our walk at 2.30pm. It was a great day out, walking part of this iconic Pass with such a keen group.
