Lynmouth

Our first day, at a huge house on the edge of Exmoor,  we (our niece Philippa, husband Nick, their boys Sam and Matthew, and sister-in-law Irene) went over the moors, via Watersmeet, a well-known beauty spot on a  river, where the National trust had a stand and there was a NT  tea-room with Whortlebury jam--not sure what they are.

At Lynmouth a hydraulically operated 'railway' built in 1888, takes passengers up and down a near-vertical cliff, to sea level.

The coastal scenery is stunning and we enjoyed a long (very long!) walk, after a fish and chip lunch. The 'castle' pic is NOT our holiday home!
