Oxford-- the origin and a thousand years of university life.

A day spent pleasantly with a Nottingham neighbour, June,  who has retired to a complex in Oxford, built to resemble a  period college hall of residence--and very nicely appointed too.

June has two grandsons at Keeble College and her husband studied Chemistry at the Dyson Perrins reseach facility before joining Boots Pharma to develop and produce the analgesic Ibroprufen. Quite a career.

Mary and June stood at the Police station made famous by the TV series 'Morse'.

There are also Harry Potter tours, with dedicated shops for the enthusiast.

Bikes abound and even main building names include references to bike parking.

Today was an exam day and the flowers in students' buttonholes indicated exams taken or to be taken. Gowns and mortar boards are essential when sitting the exams.

I had never heard of the Pitt Rivers museum, but you must see it; half a million artifacts collected world wide -including shrunken heads and dinosaurs.

So many parks and gardens, all so inviting.

The 'Ancient Molecule' department --contains what? Old chemists like me??

At least it says "Wellcome' !!

On the way home through the delightful town of Thame,

a building was marked as being 16th C, with cars parked outside. That was about the time a witch was burned at the stake, for saying that carts would one day be propelled without needing horses.
