Salcombe

Salcombe and its harbour--reported in previous blogs, is proud that it is so 'chic' and well known for it!

The buildings are all pastel  shades and the shops enticingly 'quaint'.

We bought tasty small quiches and crab sandwiches at a very smart deli -where I was allowed to take a pic interior and exterior. Note the bottle of cider on the counter--very nice.

One building displayed it's 17th C fire insurance escutcheon and another it's 21stC 'Q' image for smartphone web browsing--what a contrast.

The wind was perfect for a 14foot yacht race.

There was also a reminder of Salcombe's role in WWII

Later we walked to Galmpton Church across the fields --

I am always stunned at how few vicars span the millenia--43 spanning 8 centuries in this case.

Assuming they all met the previous vicar (probably not the case in plague years) it makes  an unbroken link back to the 1300's.
