Scotney Castle

Scotney Castle

We met our niece, Philippa and family, Nick, plus two boys at this NT property just inside the border of Kent, near Tunbridge Wells.

Philippa provided a nice picnic for us all.

The grounds were beautiful. There is a 19th C house but the main feature is a 13th C castle  --partially ruined, complete with moat.

The house contained a 16th C fire plate

and some ornate rooms, the home of the Hussey family for three generations -including  today. There was also a very well-preserved 'ice-house' keeping ice blocks frozen all summer.

The weather was ideal and the day was a great re-introduction to the NT property world.
