Snowhill Manor

The next day (actually today) we visited this NT property on our way back east to Maidenhead. Bought by the  eccentric Charles Wade, using his parents' fortune,  on 1919 on discharge from the army after WWI, it dates from 1485.

He restored it and started the collection of over 22,000 unusual and rare objects. He lived in a fascinating 'priests' House, next door  and kept the main house for his finds. He died in 1956,  married only 10 years and childless.

It's unbelievable and the gardens a delight. Words cannot convey the charm of this place.

One item is a 300 year old Spanish church music book weighing 31 Kgs!

He had a fascination with Tudor 'box beds'and slept in one himself.
