Sydney Harbour Bridge C 1934

Taken by my father who was a crew member on the  P&O ship--The Stratheden.

Since the picture was taken from shore and the ship is leaving harbour for England, how did he get back on the ship??

My guess is that as my father was the only photographer on the ship, the captain asked him to take the picture and sent a boat especially to shore for him.

He developed the pictures in a darkroom in the hold of the ship and was the sort of 'official' photographer for the ship. He told me that he photographed many famous first class passengers but , being an honest man, he returned all prints and negatives to the owners, who had of course paid him.

It's astonishing how little construction there is on the north shore--a very visionary development at the time.
