The winner-Totnes- Buckfast Abbey and heraldry

First--felicitations to Capucine of Marseilles-the first one to guess it is a mushroom!

We took the challenge of the tiny lanes again and  visited Totnes today--renowned for two things--the revelation in the BBC news TODAY that a previous Conservative Totnes MP spied for the communists and--- the birth of Charles Babbage who gave us the primitive calculating machine-the 'difference engine' and the first time that I had heard of a female mathematician who supported him--"behind every great man...."..her name was 'Lovelace' --don't I know that from somewhere else??

It is another very ancient town, with a hilltop Norman fort and picturesque shops--a herbalist who let me photograph his display -a museum--Mary offering her wares in an Elizabethan kitchen and some amusing signs..

At Buckfast Abbey--I discovered my Coat of Arms, which includes three unicorns, no less  and the fact that our family was onthe third fleet of convicts to Australia--dignity at last !Now to find my stately home............

There was a shop selling products from the monastery.

Finally some more Hope Cove pictures, of the harbour and signs.  Can you imagine the outcry there would be if there was a charge each time you launched a baot or kayak at Cronulla?
