Dubrovnik

There's also my previous post on Dubrovnic from 10 years ago.

A bright orange ferry or 'tendered' brought us from the ship to the port in the morning and a guide led us on a tour of a monastery, museum and churches, some of which were not available on our visit 10 years ago.

In spite of earthquakes, a few buildings survive from the 15th C, like the church on the left here. There's more to see inside this time including some very old documents and pictures, gold and silverware etc.

There's even an Antiphon as also  found in Medieval English churches.

I think the cable car above the town might be  new as well. It's now expensive to buy a ticket to walk the 2km wall circuit. Far too hot for us anyway.

It's whole history is one of trade, not Royal or ecclesiastical dynasties.

Renting holiday apartments in Dubrovnik is now a very expensive business with a lot of demand. It's not as 'homelike' as Rhodes , I feel, but a very nice place to visit. The guide said it's like a ghost town in winter! There's few flights or visits there.

Like Corfu and Rhodes, it's got a chequered conquered past but is now a settled part of Croatia, not Greece  and a largely Catholic population.
