Venice

The ship schedule meant we could only access Venice about 4.00pm after a ferry ride from ship at Fusinia (cruises not allowed in Venice anymore-should never have allowed it in the first place).

It was hot and we were 'unguided' and as I'd left my compass behind we quickly got lost. I wanted to see St Marks then go to Rialto Bridge. We could see them on the map but Venice was absolutely packed out with tourists and navigating narrow streets and alleys not a pleasant or easy experience. St Marks was packed and  also had dozens of pop-up market stalls plus a lot of scaffolding for remedial work, so you couldn't get a perspective easily of where you were.

Eventually we threaded our way to Rialto and saw many bridges en route.

There we lunched riverside then found a Gondola for the 30 min ride then back to the ferry.

There were a lot of delays rounding up passengers and we got back to ship after all restaurants closed.

Room service was very good however, but we had a panic to get our big cases out the door for pick up for the morning. A very rushed end to it all.
