Wollemi National Park and Dean's Creek Falls

After an early start from Blackheath and a drive on wet dirt roads for an hour, we reached the start of the walk, in the 'Gardens of Stone' area and met with other club members.

The 5 hour expedition  (it stayed at 9Deg C all day!)  was not a long distance, but included a lot of bush bashing. I found the new gaitors, some kayak gloves and my heavy duty gortex, indispensible. I had also soaked my socks in salt solution to prevent leach attacks--and it worked!

We had morning tea and later lunch, in top of magnificent stone Pagodas.

A 'highlight' of the walk was a narrow crevice leading to a very narrow ledge with on the edge of a vertiginous drop, to get around a pagoda.

We also saw several huge caves and  Dean's Creek  waterfall.

This beautiful area is threatened with coal mining and an extension of Clarence Colliery, which already pollutes the ground water and rivers. Your protests about this environmental damage, to your MP, will make a difference.
