York Medieval Mystery Plays

The main reason we were in York was to see these Plays with Dorothy-the wife of Nan's cousin John Pullee, now deceased.

The plays are only performed every few years, in the grounds of the ruins of St Mary's Abbey. The performance was stunning--a play of Creaton through to the Resurrection. The costumes chosen were 1920's--which was OK. Photography was forbidden but it seemed such a  shame so I tried a few pics--plus some from some some advertising boards later. You can get the feelof it. The Angels all wore Fez type hats and the Devil was podgy in a flashy suit. God and Jesus were the same  young bearded man, mostly in a long  brown coat

Hell was represented by openings in the floor with red light and smoke --very dramatic.
