Easter holiday Snowy Mountains trip!!

In the 15 years we have been visiting Pygmy Possum Lodge (in Charlotte Pass--Australia's highest village) in the Snowy Mountains, we have never experienced such blizzard conditions! It started off cold, but calmly........

We did some group walks -one to Porcupine Rocks--vey boggy and a walk on our own at Sawpit Creek, the Watefall Walk.

Then the weather changed!!

In spite of the cold, sankes are still in evidence--like this black one!

The day we decided to do the main range 23Km walk to Mt Kosciusko, the conditions were literally arctic--with a gale blowing and sleet in the air.

As if this wasn't enough, at the start and end of the hike, most of the group had to wade through a feezing stream, below the cloud and snow line (being nimble -footed, I skipped across the stepping stones in boots and kept dry and warm!)

During the week we cheered ourselves with a visit to a distillery at Crackenback mountain, complete with wood fire and many, many, free samples! We also enjoyed every evening with our friends in the very well appointed Ski Lodge and celebrated a seven-year-old's birthday!

There is a mountain rescue hut -Seaman's Hut, which we availed ourselves of on our last walk, to Rawson's Pass, a hut also complete with wood stove

The gum trees look spectacular in the snow

and you still see the odd snake!

The day we left it was clear, calm, blue skies, warm..................you know that feeling after a wet week on holiday............!?
