I was nominated for a Community Award by a friend and the ceremony took place in a large auditorium in Sutherland this morning, with 34 other awardees. There was a huge range of volunteer activities covered, schools, Lions' clubs, Masons, churches, disability support, infant mortality, medical research etc etc.

Daughter Caryl exhibited two pictures, an Angler Fish and a Waratah bloom; she also won the lucky door prize-presented by her teacher.

On return to Australia, I ordered these from Peter Christian in W. Sussex.The colour is nantucket. They were advertised in none other than the New Scientist! Yes, it's a 'selfie'.

Just before leaving, daughter Caryl and I visited the Vivid light show in Sydney. It was varied and spectacular, especially the Museum of Contemporary Art.

We took Jessica to see Mozart's 'The Magic Flute' performed by Opera Australia at the Joan Sutherland auditorium, Opera House, today. I was astonished to hear one of the songs -Pamina's Picture--which I have played many times on clarinet, without knowing the origin
